"Trial" on display in "Extract" at Chilli Gallery

"An extract is a piece in the puzzle of something larger. Torn from its original context, it arrives elsewhere carrying residual meaning. To extract meanwhile, is an act: deliberate, often violent and never quite neutral. The works gathered here explore both meanings, operating in the gap between origin and destination. Caught in the moment of removal, they relocate and re-inscribe to transform the taken into something made.

Extract brings together Christopher Paul Jordan, Marni Marriott, Billy Myles-Berkouwer, Max Rumbol and Aubrey Higgin, five artists who unpack the concept of authorship. Viewed as a cultural construct rather than an inherent quality, they reflect on what authorship means when the materials, images and processes involved already carry the fingerprints of others." - Chilli Gallery
